The Berlin based R.T.CO was founded in 2010 by graphic designer Tobias Bergmann. R.T.CO means ROLLO T-shirt COmpany, an abstract combination of “to roll” (on a skateboard) and an ironic view of what it was all about when they first started out according to Tobias: making screen-printed T-shirts rather than being a real fashion label.
From the DIY skateboard background R.T.CO was born. Rollo still is a label for the skateboard market, while R.T.CO is committed to making high quality unique frames.
The sunglasses are handmade in Austria and Italy together with small manufacturers. Making frames with clean shapes and astonishing acetate.
A lot of work is spent in finding the right materials, like their special acetate, often being dead stock from past decades. We are really thrilled about the uniqueness of their acetate. Their models have magical colours and we are still perplexed and trying to deduce how the acetates were made.
Besides that we dig R.T.CO’s wing it mentality. They have a pop-up store in Berlin together where he also sells brands as Acne, New Balance and Hien Le. Often throwing get-together’s where friends and people who are interested come by to have a drink, a chat and look at the collections. This is what a shop nowadays should be all about. Giving this extra touch, web shops can’t provide.
